The great part about this commission is that we had designed and built Heron Hide as well so it was adding icing to the cake to be able to paint the inside of the learning space and then fit it out with educational resources. The mural covers a full 360 degrees and interprets the meres and mosses habitats. More than just a mural, there are hooks and wooden tags for the children to identify the species, beaks and feet costumes and geology drawers to explore.

The brief was simply to transform a north facing brick wall into a summery view. I created a series of trompe l’oeil arches to view through to a Monet style garden. The most amazing point was when the sun went down after the installation and the moonlit scene was revealed.

This mural tells the story of migration of the birds at College Lake Nature Reserve. Each bird is depicted in flight and leads you through the bird hide to a map showing their migration routes.

A lovely commission to paint a large decorative hawthorn tree full of wild birds. Oh and also the clients rabbit! Painted high up on the wall, this mural is in a prominent position in the entrance hallway. This is one of many mural commissions I have done for this client. Part of the overall project to re-invent a bird hide as a geology field station, this mural is external, setting the scene on the lead up to the entrance. There are also a series of talking rocks set into an artificial glacier that tell the story of where all the rocks came from and how they got there. Press the plunger to hear them speak!

I painted a series of 6 mural panels as part of my designs for the discovery zone at Box Hill, including a large mural on the outside of the building which draws visitors into the space. Each panel depicts the wildlife from a different habitat found at Box Hill. The Friends of Box Hill and National Trust are one of my regular clients and are a pleasure to work with, giving us a variety of creative projects which utilise our many in-house skills.

The inside of this hide we built is modelled as a cutaway section of an Otter holt, complete with lifesize 3D Otters. The front and side walls are completely muralled with an above and below water scene depicting Otters and other wildlife found at Aston Locks. I also wrote a poem telling the story of each species which is then stencilled onto the walls.

Painted on the back doors of the Beaver Bus, this above and below water mural depicts a range of the wildlife to be found at the Cotswold Lakes - including Beavers!
